Just a quick post to commend (of all companies) Google.
I’ve been searching for some information about 301 redirects -the set of instructions that tell an Internet browser to jump to another specified addres- for my producers forum as I’m converting (yet again) its platform.
My search terms were “301 redirects and Google” and the first result pointed me to this address: http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=93633 which is at Google’s Webmaster Central.
I found a video explaining the main concerns web masters have when having to relocate a site due to platform, servers, or URL changes.
I wonder why more companies haven’t added this form of communication to their book of best practices.
Here; I’ll help you, dear non-communicative companies:
But first, let’s read these facts shall we?
- Webcams are cheap, some even come already attached to your computer.
- Youtube is free for posting videos.
- Almost everyone (unless they live in caves) knows how to embed a video from Youtube.
- Almost everyone can speak and explain concepts.
- Everyone would love you if you posted a video instead of 2 pages of long-drawn explanations.
Now if only you weren’t all so shy…
Here’s the video in question:
